Alberta Micro-Generation Regulation

The Micro-Generation Regulation, which was established in 2008, enables homeowners to meet their electricity needs by generating electricity from renewable sources that include solar. Under the regulation, micro-generators receive credit for excess electricity (PDF) they supply back to the grid. Under this regulation, Micro-Generation systems are sized to match all or a portion of a home’s electricity needs. This means that homeowners are not permitted to install a solar PV system in excess of the home’s average annual electricity usage. More details can be found in the Micro-Generation Regulation.
